Perm City Day

Perm continues to be under lock down because of COVID-19 pandemic, but even under such circumstances Perm citizens celebrated Russia Day and the 297th anniversary of their city.

A rich program of online events for City Day was prepared by various institutions of culture, sport and education. Perm citizens took part in the online carnival ‘Perm the Bright’. Perm residents also had an opportunity to participate in the online flash mob #MyPerm297 by posting photos of  their favorite places in the city in social media with #MyPerm297 hashtag. Most creative participants received a souvenir medal designed in honor of the city founder - Vasily Tatishchev.

The festive telethon was held by the regional TV channel VETTA 24 from 11AM to 8PM on June 12th. During the telethon, the channel showed congratulatory videos from Lillo Firetto, Mayor of Agrigento (Italy), Sören Link, Oberbürgermeister of Duisburg (Germany) and Craig Simmons, Lord Mayor of Oxford (Great Britain). They regretted they could not attend the festivities and wished Perm citizens wealth and health.

Cllr Craig Simmons, Lord Mayor of Oxford, emphasized in his video message that he was honored to receive an invitation to come to Perm on June 12 to celebrate Perm City Day.

The final event of the City Day was a large online concert featuring performers from Perm.

On the eve of June 12, Perm took part in the federal initiative ‘We are with Russia’. The Russian tri-colour ribbons were distributed at Perm factories.

The Russian flag can be seen along Perm streets - 36 structures with the Russian tri-color were installed in all districts of Perm, flags also decorated building facades.

Street exhibitions were set up in different districts of Perm for the holiday as part of the Museum Street project. The Museum Street has comprised four open-air exhibitions, which acquaint citizens with the works of art of the XVIII-XX centuries from the collection of the famous Perm Art Gallery, as well as with the works of contemporary young artists representing the current art trends in Perm.

Despite the fact that people are now allowed to take walks, amidst the spread of coronavirus infection, visitors were encouraged to follow safety regulations: to wear face masks, to respect social distancing rules and to avoid mass gatherings.
